Iowa Water Filtration Des Moines Metro

Every number we quote, you can go look up

Central Iowa has unusually well-documented water. Every figure on this site traces back to a utility, an agency or a published report, and we tell you which one.

What we do

Iowa Water Filtration Co. installs whole-home filtration, water softeners and reverse osmosis across the Des Moines metro. There is no showroom, it is a service area business, so everything happens at your house. Licensed Iowa plumbing contractors do the installation and permits get pulled wherever the city wants one.

Who I am, and how new this is

I am Drew Heberer. I live in the Des Moines metro, I own this company, and I will tell you up front that it is new. If you want a contractor with twenty years of water treatment behind them, that is a completely fair thing to want and it is not me. What I can hand you is every number on this website with a source attached, a free test at your own tap, and a fixed price on one page.

The reason I started it is the data. Central Iowa has some of the best-documented water problems in the country, mostly because the problems are bad enough that the utility has to publish about them constantly. Central Iowa Water Works posts its nitrate readings. The rivers are gauged. They ordered mandatory lawn watering bans in two summers in a row. Figure 1 on the home page is their own daily log, transcribed off their website, and you can go check all 43 readings against the source.

Why I lead with the utility's numbers

Water treatment has an earned reputation problem. You know the version. A free in-home test that is really a sales appointment, some alarming number read off a handheld meter, and a price that falls a thousand dollars if you sign before the van pulls out of the driveway. Everybody who has sat through one knows what that is.

So I went at it backward. Your utility already published most of what matters. I show you that, then I test your tap, then I put the two side by side and you can see whether they agree. If you want to take an afternoon and verify the published half yourself before I ever show up, good. That is the point of citing it.

Which does mean I talk people out of things. A softener will not fix nitrate. A carbon filter will not fix hardness. Plenty of metro homes need one system and not three, and a few need nothing. Saying that out loud costs me a sale and it is the only thing that makes the next quote worth reading.

How I price

One page, fixed, in writing, after the test. No same-day discount that expires. The quote names the equipment, the install cost, the filter change interval and what the consumables run per year. A system nobody told you the running cost of is a system you quit maintaining in about eighteen months.

Who does the work

Plumbing in Iowa falls under the Plumbing and Mechanical Systems Board. A plumbing contractor has to hold a master license or employ a licensed master plumber as its master of record, and carry liability insurance and a surety bond. The installs on your house get done by a licensed Iowa plumbing contractor, not by me. If you want to see a license number before anybody touches your plumbing, ask for it and you will get it.
